[ heavenly flame ]

A flame I was
Looking out across this vast world of candles
All slowly dying out
Plunging the world into darkness
And I searched and I searched
And when I could not find another flame
My light began to dwindle
And when I had given up the search
Given up hope
I chanced to see
A flame
Shining out from the darkness
I cried out for joy
Reaching out for its entrancingly beautiful warmth
Which I received lovingly
And returned
I was enraptured
Enthralled
For a time
But having grown accustomed to the warmth
I became lax and inattentive
And in turn
Was burnt
A flame sent screaming out of the heavens
Howling in pain
Into the darkness of the world below
Again
And I watched my old flame from a distance
And anguished over my foolishness
Battling my remorse
My sorrow
I reached out tentatively for the flame
Yearning for its warmth
Its love
And though I was terribly afraid of the darkness
I was yet fearful of being burnt
Yet again
